Add friends by code, trade one-on-one, or throw a spare into Wonder Trade and get a surprise from another trainer.
Buddy Pokémon
Pick a Buddy to walk behind you on the route. It finds Candy and items, and earns hearts all the way to Best Buddy.
Trainer profiles
Your trainer card with ribbons, titles and favourite Pokémon. Climb the Trainers board and visit your friends' PCs.

One big window with tabs, or floating windows you place anywhere. Switch any time in Settings.

Download Tallgrass
Free, no account needed. Version 0.51.1. It updates itself after this.
You're on a phone. Tallgrass is a Windows and Mac game, so open this page on your computer to download it.
Windows
Download for Windows
- Unzip it anywhere you like (right-click → Extract All).
- Open the folder and double-click Tallgrass.exe. No install needed.
- If Windows says "Windows protected your PC", click More info → Run anyway. It's just because the game isn't from a big publisher.
Mac
Download for Mac
- Unzip, then drag Tallgrass.app into Applications.
- It's not from the App Store, so the first time only, open Terminal, paste this and press Enter:
xattr -cr /Applications/Tallgrass.app && codesign --force --deep --sign - /Applications/Tallgrass.app - Open Tallgrass from Applications. After that it opens normally.
Your save lives on your computer and carries over every update. Wild Pokémon keep stacking up while the game is closed.

Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Tallgrass is a free fan project, with no ads and nothing to buy. Everything in the game is earned by playing.
Windows says it's from an unknown publisher. Is that OK?
That warning shows for any game that isn't signed by a big company. Click More info then Run anyway. You only need to do it once.
Will it slow my PC down?
It's made to idle all day next to whatever you're doing. If it ever crashes or stutters, turn off Hardware acceleration in Settings.
Does it need the internet?
The hunt works offline. Friends, trades, Wonder Trade, Raid helpers and the Trainers board need you online.
How do updates work?
New versions download in the background while you play. When one is ready you'll see it up top, and one click restarts you on it. Your save carries over.
Where is my save?
On your computer. On Windows it's %APPDATA%\Glowbugs Hunt\save.json. Back it up any time.
Intel Mac, Linux, phone?
Right now it's Windows 10/11 and Apple Silicon Macs (M1 and newer). Ask in the Discord if you'd like another platform.
Is this an official Pokémon game?
No. It's a fan-made game, free and not for sale, and not affiliated with Nintendo, Game Freak, Creatures or The Pokémon Company.
